Prophet Isa (Jesus)

 Prophet Isa (known as Jesus in Christianity) holds a significant and revered position in Islam. He is regarded as one of the greatest and most beloved prophets, and his life and teachings offer profound lessons about mercy, faith, and righteousness. In Islam, Prophet Isa is considered a messenger of Allah who brought guidance, healing, and compassion to his people.

The Birth of Prophet Isa

Prophet Isa’s birth is one of the most miraculous events in Islamic tradition. He was born to Maryam (Mary), a pious and virtuous woman, who, according to Islamic belief, conceived him miraculously without the intervention of a man. The Qur'an recounts the story of his miraculous birth:

  3. Creating a Bird from Clay: Isa created a bird from clay and, by the will of Allah, breathed life into it. This miracle not only demonstrated his connection to Allah but also served as a sign for those who doubted his prophethood.

  4. Speaking in the Cradle: As an infant, Isa spoke to defend his mother, Maryam, when people accused her of immorality after his miraculous birth. The Qur'an recounts this miraculous event:

“[He] said, ‘Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.’” (Quran 19:30)

The Message of Prophet Isa

Prophet Isa’s teachings focused on the importance of worshiping Allah alone, living a righteous life, and following the divine guidance. He called on the Children of Israel to repent for their sins and embrace the teachings of Islam (submission to the will of Allah). Isa emphasized compassion, forgiveness, humility, and the importance of helping others, especially the poor and oppressed.

His message was one of peace, and he taught his followers to love and care for one another, to forgive, and to show mercy. He also preached the coming of a final messenger, who would complete the divine message.

“Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive.” (Quran 19:30-31)

The Crucifixion and Ascension of Prophet Isa

In Islam, the narrative of the crucifixion of Prophet Isa differs significantly from the Christian tradition. The Qur'an states that Isa was not crucified but instead that Allah raised him up to Himself:

“[The disbelievers] said, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Isa, the son of Maryam, the messenger of Allah.’ But they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him for certain.” (Quran 4:157)

In Islam, it is believed that Allah saved Isa from being crucified, and instead, someone else was made to appear like him to the people. Isa was then raised up to Allah, and he will return in the future as part of the signs of the Day of Judgment to defeat the false messiah (Dajjal) and restore justice and righteousness.

Prophet Isa in the Qur'an and His Return

The return of Prophet Isa is one of the significant events in Islamic eschatology. According to Islamic belief, Isa will return to the earth before the Day of Judgment. His return will be to defeat the Dajjal (the Antichrist), establish justice, and unite the people under the worship of Allah. Isa’s return is a symbol of hope, redemption, and divine justice.

The Status of Prophet Isa in Islam

In Islam, Isa is revered as one of the five great prophets: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them). He is considered a servant of Allah, a mighty messenger, and a model of faith, piety, and humility. While Islam acknowledges the importance of Isa and honors his miracles, it does not view him as the Son of God or divine, as in Christianity. In Islam, he is a human being chosen by Allah for a specific mission.

  3. Humility and Obedience: Isa’s humility and complete submission to Allah’s will serve as an example of how Muslims should approach their own lives with humility and obedience to Allah.

  4. Hope for the Future: The return of Isa brings hope for a just and righteous world. His return will restore peace, truth, and justice, and is a reminder that Allah’s plan is always unfolding according to divine wisdom.
